These machines are already run by the brand of Skoda and Peugeot in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge – the aperture leg of which was January’s Monte Carlo Rally. They accept commonly aspirated 2.0-litre engines and a added simple 4WD system, and are cheaper than the WRC’s accepted turbo contenders. However, teams will be accustomed to fit disposable aerodynamic parts, such as foreground and rear spoilers.
Bosses appear that the rules would change afresh in 2013, with the acceptance of a new bearing of WRC car that will be powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine.
