I have a november 2002 subaru impreza wrx..at the back of the gearbox [final drive?] are two cogs in permanent contact that have chipped and broken away,,the swaft has made its way in to the gearbox,,To replace box approx 5k plus clutch as it has always judderd £700 then labour? Anyway I found two guys with the knowledge and second hand parts for under 2k…Subaru did not want to know even though FSH and only 42,ooo miles,,Just a thought, when I first got the car I remeber saying to the wife it seemed noisy in reverse,,perhaps it was the start of the problem,,it did go quieter over time,,Not imprezzed,,,after 50 years of driving,,,[have photos of damage]
