Last Auto news - Rolls revives Ghost badge Ghost debuted as 200EX, alongside Phantoms
Yet another luxury car is on the way: Rolls-Royce’s new ‘compact’ saloon goes on sale in 2010.
And it resurrects a famous badge last used by the firm in 1925 - as bosses have confirmed it will be called the Ghost.
The newcomer was previewed by the 200EX concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and production will begin at the company’s plant in Goodwood, West Sussex, later this year. It will follow in the footsteps of its Phantom big brother.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars CEO Tom Purves said: “The Ghost name reflects our new model’s breadth of abilities. The first vehicles to bear the Ghost badge were known not only for their impressive dependability and refinement, but also great flair and style.
“This car will be the first in a new generation of models to carry this evocative name and will give us two pinnacle product lines: Phantom and Ghost.†It gets an all-new 6.6-litre V12 engine which produces upwards of 500bhp, hooked up to a fresh eight-
speed automatic gearbox.
