Last Auto News - GM Announces 72-Hour Sale, Cash for Clunkers Promotion
Last Auto News -

General Motors has announced a new “72 Hour Sale” that began yesterday and ends on July 6, offering 0 percent interest for up to 72 months on select models. (Apparently the company is in bankruptcy due to poor math skills. Even we know there are more than 72 hours in six days, and we’re editors - we failed math)..
Kicking Tires explains, “Included 2009 and 2010 models in the 0% for 72-months term are: Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra regular, extended and crew cab light-duty pickups; Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL SUVs; Chevrolet Impala.”
Edmunds Inside Line adds, “Soon-to-be-discontinued Pontiac models such as the Vibe, G3, G5, G6 and G8 are on the list,” even the top-of-the-line Pontiac G8 GXP.
The event launches alongside another GM promotion. Motor Trend reports, “GM is launching a big new sales event today called “Buy and Say Goodbye,” designed to hype “its large number of vehicles eligible for the upcoming CARS cash-for-clunkers vouchers.” The company “boasts that it has 74 models that qualify for CARS, twice as many as any other automaker.”
Motor Trend, however, questions GM’s math skills on that one as well. “Including 2010 models, GM has less than 60 distinct vehicles across all eight of its current brands. Further, we count just 28 GM models across all eight of its brands that qualify for CARS.” GM apparently arrived at its figure by counting trim levels as separate models - enabling them to count the Chevy Cobalt, for instance, four times, because its LS, LT, XFE and SS trims all qualify.
