The newcomer boasts a 180bhp version of the 155bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that currently powers the range topping MiTo. When the GTA arrives, it’ll boast 240bhp.

Revealed at the AutoRAI show in Amsterdam, the new model gets uprated suspension, bigger brakes and a neat bodykit that packs a new front splitter, side skirts and white detailing for the mirrors, roof spoiler and wheels.

Inside, there are sports seats and aluminum pedals. It’s being called the Veloce at present - but since that denotes a trim level in the current line-up, that badge may change.
